The newly registered estate surveyors and valuers have been charged to observe professional ethics and standards in the interest of the country in the cause of their career.
The Chairman, Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON), Nweke Umezuruike gave the charge Tuesday in Abuja at the 42nd induction ceremony for the newly registered estate surveyors and valuers .
He told the new members to uphold and observe the ethics of the profession while discharging their duty adding that, the Institution would not hesitate to sanction any erring members.
Also speaking, the President, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Abonta Rowland, urged the new inductees to imbibe the professional ethics and standards, adding that, they would be personally responsible for their actions and inactions.
Rowland told them to shun undue external influences that would make them to compromise standard.
He added that, the NIESV would continue to provide empowerment through training and skill acquisition by various faculties of the Institution.
His words ” I charge those of you being inducted today by the Board to please imbibe and maintain our professional ethics and standards. You have been through the Institution. And note that, you will be personally responsible for your action and inaction. Avoid undue external influences for any purposes ”
He said the Institution would continue to assist members to ensuring strict adherence to the ethics and standards of the profession.
According to Rowland ” In this profession, the sky is your limit considering the training you have gone through. I say again we have a godly and goodly heritage in this profession, which makes us the envy of other professions. Be rest assured that we at management and council will continue to take every legal step and action to protect our God-given area of competence for the present and future generations for estate surveyor and valuers. ”
Speaking earlier, the Guest Speaker, Oludare Bello admonished the new members to be of good ambassador of the profession. He charged them to observe the provisions of the constitution of the profession both written and unwritten.
He advised the new members to be focused and not to give up noting that they would face challenges and fierce competition in the cause of their career.
He charged them to be diligent and never compromise standards for the purpose of financial gain.
According to Bello, “As professionals, we must continue to ask ourselves why are we in this profession? Are we in this profession to be numbered among estate surveyors and valuers?
Any shortcuts to compromise professional integrity will not allow God to uphold you or settle before him forever.
Bello also charged the newly registered to be courageous, adding it takes courage to succeed in any profession.
“The new inductees must imbibe courage if you must go far in this profession. That is the courage to succeed in life. Successful life is not for the lily-livered, you must believe in yourself and be determined.
“You will surely be confronted with challenges and sometimes fierce competition in the course of your career but you must nit look back or give up
“You must imbibe the culture of diligence, hardwork and determination. Diligence will make you stand before kings”, Bello said.
On his own part the Minister of Works and Housing who was represented by the Deputy Director (Lands), Godwin Ityoachimin said the ministry would continue to collaborate and partner with the Board in any area that would strengthen the estate surveyors and valuers’ profession in the country.
