The annual architecture forum, organized by the architects’ regulatory body, Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), popularly known as Architects Colloquium begins Monday in Abuja.
This year’s edition, planned to be more robust in scope and size, according to the organizer, has “Architecture And The Nigerian Development Agenda XI” and “Architecture And Sustainable Built Environment” as its main theme and sub-theme respectively.
Specifically set to hold between Monday 23rd and Thursday 26th of April, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, the forum, creates the platform for professional within and outside the building and constructor industry to interact, discuss and dialogue on architectural and built environment, and other related issues.
Architect Umar Murnai, Registrar, ESVARBON, said this year’s edition would cover architecture and sustainability concept, software capacity building for architects (BIM), and valued added to building finishes.
Other areas the Colloquium would also cover according to Umar, include value added to building finishes appropriate procedure for painting application, architects services and remuneration challenges and feedback, the advantages and disadvantages of current architectural trends and styles and management of an architectural practice as a business.
Umar said that those expected to attend the event are architects in various vocations, other professionals in the building industry, research institutions, educators, students, agencies responsible for housing and developmental control and the general public.
He said the Colloquium would attract the CPD scoring points of 20 marks.
Architect Jimoh Faworaja, former president of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) said that the Architects’ Colloquium is an annual gathering of architects in various vocations for the purpose of brainstorming on issues that have direct bearing on the challenges facing the profession and the built environment; proffer solutions and implementation strategies with careful monitoring and evaluation of output, outcome and impact on the profession, the general public and the nation at large.
According to him, the Colloquium, which was established in 2007, has each year debated on prime architectural issues, with many architects and other stakeholders presenting papers.
