President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the 2nd Governing Council of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP, and Board of Trustees of Ogoni Trust Fund in Abuja.

Represented by Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, Buhari said it is time to rejig the agency for enhanced structured and focused delivery of the clean up project.

He also explained that the United Nations Environment Project (UNEP) report was implemented for the benefits of Ogoni people, saying, the remediation of polluted land is progressing in various sites.

“Though some milestones and timelines could not be accomplished circumstantially, we are nevertheless determined to recover lost grounds and achieve our goals through deliberate efforts to reinvigorate our processes.”

The President added, “We have carefully and painstakingly considered your backgrounds, profiles and competences in affording you the opportunity to serve in these offices,and to see your appointment as patriotic national duty.”

The members of Governing Council of HYPREP are: Minister of Environment, Dr.Muhammad M.Abubakar,Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Gods will Akpabio,Minister of state Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva,Minister of state for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba.

Others include, National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno,(rtd),Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission,Managing Director, SPDC, Mr.Osagie Okunbor, representative of NGO/CSOs, Mr. Celestine Akpoborie, state representative of nine oil producing states (Rivers state).

Representatives of Ogoni people, Mr.George Fuyil,MOSOP,other Niger Delta Communities, Dr.Mrs. Timi Agari,Mrs. Pamela Esiri, Israel Kayode,Emem Okon, UNEP as observer, Project Coordinator of HYPREP (Secretary)
