The Ogun State Government has urged the federal authorities to refund N124billion spent on the construction of various Federal Government roads spread across the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Olamilekan Adegbite also described as false the rumor going rounds that the Federal Government has taken over the construction of the 10 lane,45 kilometre Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange road project being constructed by the State Government .
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola during an inspection and assessment tour of federal roads and on going housing projects in the state early this year had assured the state government of the federal government’s refund of money spent on the various federal roads constructed.
Adegite, in a statement by the Head of Media in the ministry, Mr Ayokunle Ewuoso was quoted to have said that the 10 lane road project was embarked upon in order to prepare the state capital for the next stage of industrialization and Economic growth.
“The visibility of the road is something that we think is desirable, the project itself was embarked upon to prepare for the next state of industrialization and economic growth of the states especially the capital and for the federal government taken over, No, it is even yet to pay us for the one’s we have done; though it is a federal government road”.
Arc. Adegbite stated that the 32klm Sango/Ijoko/Oke-Aro/Ojodu Abiodun road project was still on going adding that the Ministry of Rural Development would soon embark on the construction of rural and semi-urban roads in the state.
Speaking on the 15 megawatts independent power plant it built with Lisabi power, an independent power provider through a public partnership program(PPP), Adegbite stated that the plant has commenced full operation with the State Secretariat and other government establishments such as Water Corporation, State Hospitals, Commissioners quarters etc benefiting .
