Lagos State Government is to upgrade Bariga and Ifelodun Local Government Development Areas acclaimed to be among the largest and oldest slums in Lagos.
The feasibility study of the Project was validated in December 2014 when the French Development Agency Board and the Federal Executive Council approved the financing in order to support Lagos State Government on this laudable project.
The project which is to be implemented by Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) was designed to improve the living conditions of inhabitants who are between 200,000 and 300,000 living in the slums.
Speaking on the Project recently, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Urban Development, Mrs Yetunde Onabule described the EKO-UP project as a partnership between the State Government and the French Government.
She said that LASURA has been mandated to carry out ten projects in Bariga and Ifelodun communities such as road construction, drainage system and building of two schools each in Bariga and Ifelodun amongst others.
