L. Edu Memorial Lecture held recently in Lagos.
Three two PhD students has been awarded awarded grants worth one million naira by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
The sudents are Mr. Chukwuka Benjamin Ogbonna of the Department of Micro-biology, University of Port-Harcourt and Mr. Sunday Oluwasegun Rotimi of the Department of Ecotourism & Wildlife, Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The award was part of the activities of the 15th Chief S. L. Edu Memorial Lecture held recently in Lagos. The theme for this year’s lecture is “Decline of Vultures: Consequences to Human Health and the Economy”.
Chief S. L. Edu Memorial Research Grant for PhD studies is an annual grant that is sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited. Two winning proposals were chosen out of 37 research proposals received from all the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
A statement signed by the Director General, Adeniyi Karunwi, said the Research Grant has been a kind gesture by Chevron for 11 years, thereby tremendously strengthening research in biodiversity conservation in Nigeria by building the capacity of young conservation professionals. Each grantee, goes away with the sum of five hundred thousand naira only to support their education.
Grantees have gone ahead to conclude their PhDs and are contributing to nation development in various fields of endeavour.
