Former Nigeria international, Sunday Oliseh, has comfirmed that Fortuna Sittard have taken disciplinary action against him but claims that his refusal to take part in fraudulent activities at the club led to his suspension, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
On Wednesday, Fortuna announced on their official website that Oliseh’s relationship with other personnel at the club left them with no choice but to render him inactive, which suggests that he was fired as head coach.
The club claimed that the decision had nothing to do with the club’s recent poor form which has seen them lose four straight league games.
Oliseh however clarified that he was suspended, rather than sacked, and told his own side of the story.
“I confirm: Due to my refusal to participate in Illegal activities at Fortuna sittard and violate the Law, I have been Suspended from my duties as Coach by the Foreign Owners of Fortuna,” Oliseh wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
“Unfortunate for the lovely fans, my players and our hard fought phenomenal positioning for Promotion.”
Oliseh however refused to reveal the illegal activities he refused to participate in when one of his Twitter followers sought an explanation.
Fortuna, who were battling relegation when Oliseh took over in January 2017, are currently third on 44 points in the league table, five points behind leaders NEC Nijmejen. Fortuna have already qualified for the play-offs for promotion.
