Following the  dismissal of the General Manager of the Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Adeigbe Olushola, an engineer, as a result of the building collapse in Lekki Gardens,  the Lagos government has inaugurated the committee on restructuring of the State Building Control Agency at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

Governor. Akinwunmi Ambode had  approved  the dismissal of the Head of Inspection and Quality Control in the Agency, Adeoye Thomas Adeyemi; the Zonal District Officer in the Agency, Dosunmu Gbadebo; while the Zonal Head of Eti-Osa West of the Agency, Mrs. Akinde Adenike Sherifat was compulsorily retired from the Civil Service.

The affected officers were dismissed having been indicted of negligence, which according to him, is an act of misconduct under the Public Service Rule 040401.

The five man committee, which will submit its report in four weeks  is under the Chairmanship of Dr. Moses Olubunmi Ajayi, a past President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria. The committee is charged with examining the Urban and Regional Planning Law of the State as it affects LASBCA; make recommendations for changes that will ensure effective service delivery; recommending organizational re-structure and appropriate manpower for effective operation of LASBCA; and studying the legal and operational issues affecting the functioning of the Materials Testing Laboratory as well as enhancing the efficient functioning of the two organizations.
