Following an order by the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on all Directors of Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited to submit themselves to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, within 24 hours or face arrest, the the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lekki Gardens, owners of the collapsed building on Kushenla Road, Ikate Elegushi, Lekki, Mr. Richard Nyong, is now in the custody at the Panti Police Station.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Dolapo Badmos, said Nyong would be charged to court once investigations were completed.
Meanwhile, senior officials of the Messrs Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited have announced plans to conduct integrity test on all its 6,000 units of houses across Lagos, Ogun, Rivers State and the Federal Capital territory, Abuja.
The company disclosed that the exact cause of the incident is not known at this time, but hinted that its officials are cooperating with Lagos and police authority to unravel the cause of the collapse, which claimed about 34 deaths.
Spokesman for Lekki Gardens, Azuka Uboh further stated the company would compensate victims of the estate project in Lekki and ensure that those injured are fully supported. He claimed that stated that a register has been opened in their office to get statistics of the victim and relatives.
Uboh said that the building, which was under construction, was meant to house a number of apartment units, and was unawares that workers was staying in the building.
“As regards the said building, investigations are being carried out to In line with our usual safety standards, all sites are closed off by 6pm daily and it is mandatory that every worker leaves at that time.
“Investigation is already underway to ascertain the identities of those affected as it is not company policy for site workers to take shelter in uncompleted buildings,” he said.
According to him, the management and staff of Lekki Gardens sincerely sympathize with the families of those who lost their lives, adding that the company is a reputable residential property development company and has successfully completed and delivered notable projects in the housing industry.
